A dental implant is a small titanium screw that is implanted into the bone of the jaw. An abutment needs to be connected to the implant and a false tooth or row of false teeth are connected to the abutment. Dental implants in Brentwood serve two functions:

1 – Support false teeth.

2 – Support the bone structure of the jaw. Once a tooth or multiple teeth come out, the bone that they are anchored into no longer serves a purpose, so the body begins to dissolve it. By securing a titanium implant in the tooth’s place, we are able to ensure that the bone not only remains in place but is encouraged to grow back thanks to the nature of titanium combined with the human bone matter.

What types of implants are there?

All dental implants in Brentwood are made the same, however, the difference is that they can serve a multitude of functions:

Single – a single dental implant can be used to support and replace a single missing tooth, restoring a gap in your smile and make eating and biting easier.

Multiple – two dental implants can be used to support a bridge of teeth, should a few teeth in a row be missing, this can sometimes be caused by severe facial trauma but usually, multiple teeth need to be taken out when an infection has been left to spread, it is important to visit the dentist as soon as you have pain and not to let your teeth rot.

All on 4 – this is a procedure that is used to support an entire set of dentures on only 4 implants (2 at the top and 2 at the bottom) by fixing dentures into place. Those wearing them can be more confident about their life without having to worry about their teeth falling out at embarrassing moments.

What is involved during surgery?

This surgery can be performed under sedation so that you can get through it without any anxiety if you are nervous. Once the area is numb we will cut open the gum and drill a hole into the bone big enough for the implant to be screwed in. Once the implant is in we will close it up again and send you home for 6 months in order for the healing and fusing process to be complete, but don’t worry, you will be provided with a temporary crown or denture for that time. After 6 months we can fit the abutment and a permanent tooth, bridge or denture to the implants themselves.
